Main Lodge

What sets Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge apart is a breath-taking combination of expansive views and spectacular architecture which strategically makes the most of its prime position overlooking the wild game of the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. From each cleverly designed open space you are able to watch rhino, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and perhaps even the elusive painted wolves (wild dog) move below, uninterrupted in their natural habitat as they have done for decades in this protected natural space. The lodge overlooks a local drinking hole, which attracts wildlife at all times of the day and night.

The main lounge is a vast, beautiful and luxurious setting with upmarket finishes, attention to detail and contemporary eco-friendly architecture. Along the whole length of the back wall of the lounge is a dramatic wall mural of local wildlife, while the front is floor-to-ceiling glass which acts as a high-definition screen onto reality. Every small detail in the design and layout is well thought-out, giving you the opportunity to relax in luxurious comfort. Creative use has been made of local fabrics and art, and the decor is both modern and warm, with a central indoor fireplace connecting the various seating areas and bar.

The wrap-around deck and pool reach out into the KwaZulu-Natal bushveld under intense blue skies, and the only time you might briefly tear your eyes away from these panoramic views is to select the delicious cocktails and meals which celebrate local produce. The plentiful food references its context with modern, fresh, healthy and sophisticated flair, combined with attention to artistic presentation. The variety and choice of flavourful food ensures that all dietary requirements are catered for. The bar is well stocked and the cellar has a fantastic selection of prime South African wines. Meals and drinks may be served outside on the terrace or in the glass-fronted dining room, and after dinner you may gather round the fire pit to trade stories of the day’s sightings over a nightcap before heading off to bed.

Luxurious suites are well situated along the ridge such that each guest may enjoy a unique combination of privacy and views onto nature. You may choose between a glamorous Bush Villa with a deep bath separated from the bedrooms by an open fireplace, or a Safari Room with a shower with wide, full-height glass doors which open out onto the bushveld. For those celebrating a very special occasion or simply wanting to treat themselves there are 2 exclusive Honeymoon Villas with private plunge pools overlooking the reserve. Each room continues the theme of celebrating the open views, complemented by photographic wall murals of local wildlife. The modern, high-end effect is softened by dreamy white mosquito nets draped over four-poster beds dressed in crisp white linen.

All luxury, architecture and wildlife aside, one of the aspects that we are most proud of about Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge is the shared community ownership of the lodge and its commitment to the empowerment of the local previously disadvantaged community of Hlabisa. This warmth comes through in every interaction with the staff and management of the lodge and you will feel their enthusiasm as they welcome you with a refreshing drink and warm face towel. Experienced wildlife guides delight in sharing their natural world with you on morning and evening game drives or guided bush walks.

An iconic experience of Africa, a stay at Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge makes the most of everything that this lovely part of the world has to offer its privileged guests.
